Biographical Presentation
A. gehörte der lutherischen Theologie Erlanger Prägung an und vertrat die positiv-lutherische Richtung auch als Professor in Göttingen seit 1897 (1899 ordentlicher Professor für systematische und praktische Theologie) und in Leipzig seit|1912. Seine wissenschaftliche Arbeit galt vor allem den liturgischen Studien und der Erforschung der Gebetsliteratur des 16. Jahrhunderts; auf letzterem Gebiet gewann sie bahnbrechende Bedeutung. A.' wissenschaftlicher Nachlaß ging an die Universitäts-Bibliothek Leipzig über.
