  • Biographical Presentation

    K. war Schüler seines Stiefvaters Custos. Nach Rückkehr seines Bruders Lucas bereiste er 1604-08 ebenfalls Italien, wo er sich vor allem in Mantua, Mailand, Venedig und Rom aufhielt. Damals entstanden Arbeiten nach italienischen Meistern. Wieder in Augsburg, arbeitete K. zunächst für den Verlag seines Stiefvaters und gründete nach dessen Tod um 1616/17 einen eigenen Verlag. Er schuf viele Pflanzenzeichnungen für →Basilius Besler in dem Prachtwerk über den fürstbischöflichen Botanischen Garten zu Eichstätt: Hortus Eystettensis (1613, ²1640). Eine bedeutende Leistung stellt sodann der auf 8 Platten gedruckte große Grundriß der Stadt Augsburg dar (1626); weitere Stadtpläne und Prospekte Augsburgs folgten. Porträtfolgen halten die Herzöge von Bayern und Sachsen sowie die Kaiser und Erzherzöge von Österreich fest. Reizvoll sind die Folgen der 12 Monate nach Kager (1617) und der 9 Musen nach Lucas Kilian.
