  • Biographical Presentation

    B. studierte seit 1817 in Wien und Erlangen (bei Schelling), promovierte 1827 in Wien zum Dr. jur. utr. und trat in den österreichischen Staatsdienst. Er war Mitglied des Wiener Schubertkreises. Mehrere seiner Lieder leben in der Vertonung Franz Schuberts fort. Nach dem Tode seiner Frau wurde er 1831 Redemptorist, 1833 Priester. 1841 führte er auf Ruf König Ludwigs I. die Redemptoristen in Bayern (Altötting) ein, von wo aus sich die Kongregation durch seine Bemühungen über Deutschland verbreitete. B. leitete als Provinzial 1847-54 die österreichischen und deutschen Niederlassungen, 1855-56 die deutschen, 1856-65 nur mehr die oberdeutschen (bayerischen), nachdem auf seinen Wunsch die niederdeutschen (rheinischen) selbständig geworden waren.
