    Die Familie kam Anfang 17. Jh. mit Glaubensflüchtlingen aus Flandern und Brabant an den Niederrhein. In Essen wurde Alexander (s. Gen. 1) ansässig. Hier hat die Familie immer wieder rührige Kaufgildebrüder und Ratsherren gestellt. Zu ihr gehört u. a. →August (1824–1903), Berghauptmann in Breslau und Halle, dann als Oberberghauptmann Direktor der Abteilung für Berg-, Hütten- und Salinenwesen im Ministerium für öffentliche Arbeiten (bis 1891), Abgeordneter im preuß. Landtag 1882-86 (s. BJ VIII, Tl. 1903, L).
