Biographical Presentation
Avenarius: Mag. Johann A., geb. 6. November 1670 zu Steinbach-Hallenberg, † 11. Juni 1739. Er ist ein Sohn des Matth. Avenarius, geb. 25. März 1625 zu Eisenach, der 1650 Cantor zu Schmalkalden und 1662 Pfarrer zu Steinbach-Hallenberg ward, wo er am 17. April 1692 starb; bekannt als Dichter des Kirchenliedes: „O Jesu meine Lust“. Sein Sohn Johannes wurde 1693 Pfarrer zu Berka an der Werra, 1702 Diaconus und darauf Archidiaconus zu Schmalkalden, endlich 1723 Superintendent zu Gera im Vogtland. Seine Schriften, meist ascetischen Inhalts im Geiste Spener's, darunter besonders „Erbauliche Liederpredigten“ 1714 und „Evangelischer Christenschmuck“ 1718, sind in Hauptmann's Nachrichten vom Gymnasium zu Gera (1808) verzeichnet.
