  • Biographical Presentation

    H. studierte in Erfurt und Heidelberg und wurde ins Mainzer Domkapitel aufgenommen, wo er spätestens seit 1478 das Amt des Baumeisters (magister fabricae) erhielt. Unter seiner Amtsführung wurde 1483 das Aegidienchörlein in der Memorie gebaut, 1498/99 der neue Sendner (heute Bischofsakristei), die Marienkapelle und ein neuer Eingang in den Dom sowie die Pfarrkirche in Geisenheim. Das Hauptwerk war der gotische Turmhelm des Westturms, der dem Dom und der Stadt einen bekrönenden Abschluß gegeben hat (Gesamthöhe 105,20 m). Unter ihm arbeiteten Matthias Grünewald, Valentinus Lapicida de Moguncia, Hans Backofen, Nikolaus Queck und Georg Kraft. Der Humanist →Johannes Aesticampianus hat ihn besungen. Sein Denkmal im Domkreuzgang ist das erste Renaissancedenkmal in der Mittelrheingegend.
