  • Biographical Presentation

    1530 zum Abt gewählt, führte er nach dem für die Protestanten unglücklichen Kappeier Krieg 1531 den durch die Reformation vertriebenen Konvent nach St. Gallen zurück und stellte die Herrschaft über das Klostergebiet, besonders Toggenburg und das Rheintal, wieder her. In der Folgezeit war|er durch treffliche Gesetzgebung und rege politische Tätigkeit (u. a. Bündnis mit Frankreich) um die Befestigung des Katholizismus in den Stiftslanden bemüht und reorganisierte auch die Abtei, als deren „dritter Stifter“ er gilt.
