  • Biographical Presentation

    Die Familie stammte aus Flandern. Von dort soll Johann 1570 aus Glaubensgründen nach Alexandrowice bei Krakau eingewandert sein, das ein Zentrum des Protestantismus war. Dessen Enkel, →Johann (1606–82), bemühte sich seit 1631 als brandenburg-preußischer Gesandter um ein gutes Verhältnis zwischen dem Kurfürsten und Polen (s. Literatur). Dessen Sohn →Johann Dietrich (1652–1714) nahm an den Friedensverhandlungen in Nymwegen 1677/78 teil und war 1685 kurbrandenburg, Gesandter in Dänemark, 1690-1703 in Polen und seit 1704 Hofrichter in Königsberg (s. Literatur). →Paul Freiherr von H. genannt von Schoenaich (1866–1954), Generalmajor außer Dienst, war Präsident der Deutschen Friedensgesellschaft.
