  • Biographical Presentation

    A. war ursprünglich Hüterjunge. Frühzeitig Anhänger der Partei, wurde er 1896 Privatsekretär des sozialdemokratischen Parteiführers G. von Vollmar und 1907 Abgeordneter des bayerischen Landtages, dessen Vizepräsident er später lange Zeit war. Im November 1918 wurde A. bayerischer Innenminister in der Regierung Eisner; sein erstes großes Werk war, mit lebhafter Unterstützung O. von Millers, der Aufbau des Walchenseewerkes, womit die Industrialisierung Bayerns wesentlich gefördert wurde. Ein im Zusammenhang mit der|Ermordung des bayerischen Ministerpräsidenten →Kurt Eisner stehendes Attentat verwundete ihn am 21.2.1919 im Landtag schwer. Er blieb bis 1933 Führer der bayerischen Mehrheitssozialisten (seit 1919 Reichstagsabgeordneter).
