  • Biographical Presentation

    B. studierte Theologie in Bonn und Tübingen. Seit 1890 war er gemeinsam mit Friedrich von Bodelschwingh in Berlin in der Fürsorge für die weibliche Jugend tätig. Er erreichte den Bau von 4 Mädchenwohnheimen, gab ein Jugendblatt „Deutsche Mädchenzeitung“ und eine Fachzeitschrift für evangelische weibliche Jugendarbeit heraus und begründete 1893 den „Vorständeverband“ für die evangelische weibliche Jugendarbeit Deutschlands. Die Organisation verbreitete sich über ganz Deutschland. Höhepunkt seiner Arbeit war die internationale „Weltkonferenz“ für weibliche Jugendarbeit 1910. Schon 1893 hatte B. sich dem „Weltbund“ für christliche Jugendarbeit angeschlossen. Durch Sammlungen erbaute er 1913/14 das nach ihm benannte „Burckhardthaus“ in Berlin-Dahlem.
