Biographical Presentation
Lehmann: Karl Gotthelf L., physiologischer Chemiker, geb. am 7. März 1812 zu Leipzig, † am 6. Januar 1863 in Jena, studirte in seiner Vaterstadt acht Semester Medicin, promovirte 1835 zum Dr. med. et chirurg., habilitirte sich dort 1837, wurde 1842 außerordentlicher Professor der Medicin, 1847 Nominalprofessor der physiologischen Chemie und 1854 Ordinarius in Leipzig. Ostern 1856 wurde er nach Jena berufen als Professor der allgemeinen Chemie und erhielt den Titel Hofrath; 1858 wurde er Mitglied der Leopoldinisch-Carolinischen Akademie. Er starb in Jena 1863. Seine wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten beziehen sich hauptsächlich auf Medicin und physiologische Chemie und finden sich theils in Erdmann's Journal für praktische Chemie und den Compt. rend. de l'Acad. franç., theils in medicinischen Zeitschriften. Außerdem schrieb L. verschiedene Lehrbücher: „Vollständiges Taschenbuch der theoretischen Chemie", 6. Aufl. 1854; „Lehrbuch der physiologischen Chemie", 3 Bde., 2. Aufl. 1853; „Handbuch der physiologischen Chemie“, 1854; „Zoochemie“, mit Huppert, 1858. Poggendorff, Biogr.-litter. Handwörterbuch. Lebensskizzen der Professoren der Universität Jena, von Johannes Günther, Jena 1858.
