    A. studierte in Basel, wurde 1547 Professor der Mathematik und 1549 auch der Logik, sowie 1564 Dr. med. Als Schriftsteller war A. sehr vielseitig; er gab zahlreiche lateinische Gedichte und humanistische Arbeiten heraus und nahm auch an den religiösen Kämpfen der Zeit Anteil. Seine Hauptbedeutung beruht auf mathematisch-astronomischen Arbeiten, von denen „De motu terrae“, „De sphaera“, „De astrolabiis et annuli astronomici confectione“, sowie ein ungedrucktes „Prognosticon astronomicum“ die wichtigsten sind. Ungedruckt ist auch eine von A. verfaßte Chronik. Er war mit dem Sektierer →David Joris befreundet, nach dessen Hinrichtung er sein Leben und seinen Prozeß beschrieb und in 45 Aphorismen seine Lehrmeinungen zusammenfaßte.

    Acronius: Johannes A. Frisius, so genannt nach seiner Vaterstadt Akkrum in Westfriesland, auch Atrocianus, Arzt und Mathematiker, geb. 1520, seit 1547 Professor der Mathematik und seit 1549 der Logik zu Basel, 1564 Doctor der Medicin, † an der Pest 18. Oct. desselben Jahres. Mehr als durch seine lat. Poesien und humanistischen Arbeiten (vgl. Jöcher u. Adelung) ward er durch seine mathematisch-astronom. Werke „De motu terrae", „De sphaera“, „De astrolabio et annuli astronomici confectione“, nebst einem wol nicht gedruckten „Cronicon und Prognosticon astronomica“ bekannt. Als Freund des Dav. Joris gab er nach dessen Tode die Meinungen des Joris in 45 Aphorismen und eine Geschichte seines Lebens und Processes heraus.
