    Die Familie stammt aus dem Veltlin, war jedoch schon länger in Wien ansässig;
    V Giuseppe Gabriele Allio, kaiserlicher Obristwachtmeister;
    S →Francesco Allio (1701–36), Baumeister in Klosterneuburg, Jakob Allio, Baumeister in Linz.

  • Biographical Presentation

    A. wurde zuerst um 1700 am Neubau des Piaristenkollegs in Wien beschäftigt. 1709 erscheint er in den Akten als bürgerlicher Maurermeister, 1723 als „Fortifikationsingenieur“. Er war Schüler Fischer von Erlachs, dessen Grundriß der Wiener Karl-Borromäuskirche er in seinem Hauptwerke, der 1730 vollendeten Kirche der Salesianerinnen, in einen längsovalen Kuppelbau abwandelte. Den in großem Umfang geplanten Neubau der Stiftskirche von Klosterneuburg bei Wien begann A. unter dem Einfluß Fischer von Erlachs. Die Pläne für diese gewaltige Anlage hatte A. im Auftrage Kaiser Karls VI. entworfen (Museum Klosterneuburg). Der Bau, 1755 nur zu einem Viertel fertiggestellt, blieb unvollendet. 1740-51 baute A. die Wallfahrtskirche in Wilhelmsdorf (Niederösterreich).
