  • Biographical Presentation

    Im Gegensatz zu seinen Brüdern blieb H. sein Leben lang in Nürnberg seßhaft. 1586 wurde er Organist an der Egidienkirche, als Nachfolger Hans Haidens, 1587 Nachfolger Wilhelm Endels bei Sankt Lorenz. Seit 1616 amtierte H. in Sankt Sebald bis zu seinem Tode als Organist, auf dem vornehmsten musikalischen Posten der Reichsstadt. H. war im ersten Jahrzehnt des 17. Jahrhunderts mit seinem Bruder Hans Leo im Geschäft des Silber- und Kupferbergwerkhandels tätig.

    Seine Bedeutung für die Musikgeschichte beruht ausschließlich auf seiner Herausgebertätigkeit. Er gab wertvolle Sammelwerke heraus (ähnlich wie auch Lindner, Bodenschatz, Vintzius und andere), in die er sowohl italienische wie deutsche Komponisten aufnahm. Dadurch verhalf er der Einführung und Verbreitung der italienischen prima pratica. Ferner war H. als Orgelgutachter und vermutlich auch als Orgelrestaurator bekannt.
