Biographical Presentation
Borz: Georg Heinrich B., Mathematiker, geb. zu Engelstein in Preußen 21. März 1714, † zu Leipzig 31. Jan. 1799. Er war der Sohn eines Predigers, machte seine Studien in Königsberg, Danzig und besonders in Halle, wo er der Schüler Baumgarten's in der Theologie, Wolfs in Philosophie und Mathematik wurde; 1742 kam er nach Leipzig und nahm am 21. Februar 1743 gleichzeitig mit Gellert das Magisterium an. Unmittelbar darauf erfolgte seine Habilitation zu dem Rechte, Vorlesungen halten zu dürfen. Nach einem kurzen Aufenthalte in Rußland wurde er 1763 außerordentlicher, dann 1769 ordentlicher Professor der Mathematik. Bei seinem Tode war er Präsident der Jablonowski’schen Gesellschaft. Seine Schriften sind der Hauptsache nach mathematische Programme.
