  • Biographical Presentation

    B. war 1887-1923 Ordinarius in Göttingen. In seiner ersten, kürzeren, aber sehr fruchtbaren Schaffensperiode hat er sich mit Meeresalgen, besonders erfolgreich in Neapel, beschäftigt. In der zweiten Periode wandte er physikalische Gesichtspunkte zum Verständnis der Funktion der Zelle an (Protoplasmamechanik) und suchte die pflanzliche Organisation durch kausale, entwicklungsmechanische Anatomie unter Vermeidung teleologischer Gedankengänge zu erklären.
