  • Biographical Presentation

    E. lernte bei G. Ehinger in Augsburg, war um 1708 bei seinem Bruder in Berlin, wo er Blätter nach Eosander stach, und kam mit ihm über Wien 1711 nach Augsburg zurück. In den vom Bruder und J. A. Pfeffel gegründeten Verlag trat er nach dem Ausscheiden Pfeffels als Teilhaber ein. 1719 erwarb er ein kaiserliches Privileg, das 1729 und 1739 erneuert wurde. Nach dem Tode des Bruders führte er den Verlag allein und erweiterte ihn erheblich. Seit 1743 gehörte er dem Rat der Reichsstadt an. Seine Tätigkeit als Kupferstichverleger ist in Umfang und Vielseitigkeit bedeutend: Ornamentvorlagen (insbesondere nach Johann Rumpp, Jeremias Wachsmuth und Georg Gottfried Winkler), Städteansichten, Bildnisse, religiöse und allegorische Darstellungen, Trachtenbilder, Soldatenszenen, Bilderbögen und andere – Der Verlag wurde nach dem Tode E.s von seinem Schwiegersohn unter dem alten Namen fortgeführt.
