Biographical Presentation
Schwäbisch Adelsgeschlecht mit Stammhaus bei Burgau, seit dem 12. Jahrhundert nachweisbar. Es gehörte zur Reichsritterschaft in Schwaben (Kanton Donau) und Franken (Kanton Altmühl) und wurde 1874 im Königreich Bayern bei der Freiherrnklasse immatrikuliert. Mitglieder der Familie standen vor allem im Dienste der Bischöfe von Augsburg, der Pröpste von Ellwangen¶ und der Pröpste von Wettenhausen¶. Bischöfe von Augsburg waren →Johann Egolf (1537–75, s. Literatur) und Heinrich V. († 1646, s. NDB VIII).
