    Hanneman: Adriaen H., ein seiner Zeit hochangesehener Porträt- und Historienmaler, ward geboren im Haag 1601 oder 1611 und starb daselbst 1668 oder 1669. (So nach dem Manuscript von Terwesten, entgegen der gewöhnlichen Angabe: 1610—80.) Er war Lehrling von Daniel Mytens sen. und danach von A. van Dyck, für dessen Werke seine Porträts oft ausgegeben worden sind. Walpole gibt an, daß er 16 Jahre in England zugebracht habe. In seiner Vaterstadt war er 1656 einer der Gründer und erster Decan der neuen Malergilde Pictura; in ihr als Künstler und für sein zehnjähriges erfolgreiches Wirken als Vorstand hochgeehrt. Sein Ansehen mag auch der Bericht darthun, daß die Jungfrau, welche ihm für das allegorische Bild des Friedens im Sitzungssaale der Staaten von Holland Modell saß, von diesen 1000 Gulden empfangen habe. Später ist H. kunsthistorisch wenig beachtet worden.
