Biography
Canis: Cornelius C. (de Hondt), niederländischer Contrapunktist, geb. zu Antwerpen und Capellsänger am Dom Unserer lieben Frauen daselbst, kaiserl. Capellmeister, gegen Mitte des 16. Jahrhunderts blühend, 1544 noch am Leben,|aber 1556, als Lodov. Guicciardini seine Descr. di tutt' i paesi bassi schrieb, bereits gestorben. Vom J. 1542 an finden sich Tonsätze von ihm in folgenden Sammelwerken: „Modulationes 4 voc.“, Antwerp. 1542; „Chansons“, ebd. bei Tileman Susato 1543 ff.; „Concentus 4—8 voc.“, Augsb. b. Uhlhard 1545; „Cant. sacrae“, Motetten, Antwerp. b. Tileman Susato 1546; Salblinger's „Cant. selectiss. 4 voc.“, Augsb. 1548; „Buch II der Psalmen“, Nürnb. b. Montanus u. Neuber 1553; „Motettensammlungen“, Löwen 1554—57, und ebd. bei Petr. Phalesius 1569. Eine franz. Chanson 5 voc. bei Burney, Gesch. III. 309.
