Biographical Presentation
Briaert: Johann B., (Briardus) der sich den Beinamen „Athensis“ gab, wie er auch von Erasmus genannt wird, war ein höchst talentvoller Theologe, nach Adrian Boyen (nachmals Papst Adrian VI.) 1505 und 1510 Rector zu Löwen. Luther würdigte seine Verdienste, und Erasmus nannte ihn caput academiae. Er war ein Vertrauter und Rath der Herzogin Margaretha von York, der Wittwe Karls des Kühnen. Er starb 1520.
