Biographical Presentation
Borluut. Alte vlämische Familie, vielfach in den Wirren des 16. Jahrhunderts genannt, sie gehörte zur nationalen Partei. Erst unter Karl V. trat sie zur burgundischen über. Der bekannteste Sprosse des Hauses, Joost B. v. Brucele, in der Revolution Pensionär von Gent, war längere Zeit, obgleich Katholik, ein Anhänger Oranien's und persönlicher Feind des calvinistischen Demagogen Hembyze, der ihn 1583 verhaften ließ und nahe daran war, ihn aufs Schaffot zu bringen. Nach dem Uebergang Gents versöhnte B. sich mit der Regierung und starb 1597.
