    Bonfrère: Jakob B., biblischer Exeget, geb. zu Dinant 1573, † zu Tournay 9. Mai 1643. Er trat 1592 in den Jesuitenorden, lehrte während mehrerer Jahre Philosophie und Theologie zu Douai, erhielt daselbst die Professur der Theologie und ward zugleich 1630 Vorsteher des schottischen Seminars. Seine biblischen Commentare und Erläuterungsschriften zeichnen sich durch sprachliche und archäologische Gelehrsamkeit aus. Mit der Vulgata verglich er die Septuaginta, den hebräischen Text und die chaldäische Paraphrase. „Pentateuchus Moysis commentario illustr.", 1625; „Josue, Judices et Ruth commentar. illustr.“, 1631; „Onomasticon urbium et locorum S. Scripturae seu liber de locis hebraicis ab Eusebio graece primum deinde ab Hieronymo latine scriptus“, 1631, neue Ausgabe durch Leclerc 1707. (Den griechischen Text des Eusebius, hier zuerst veröffentlicht, fand B. in der Pariser königl. Bibliothek.) — Daneben hinterließ er einige lateinische Gedichte.
