  • Biographical Presentation

    A. studierte in Basel, Berlin und Dresden und promovierte zum Dr. phil. Dann war er zunächst als Maschinen- und Schiffbauingenieur in Frankreich und England tätig. Seit 1888 Teilhaber der 1857 gegründeten väterlichen Fabrik, förderte er die Weiterentwicklung der Instrumente zur mechanischen Integration und wandte sich dann vornehmlich dem Maschinenbau zu. A. nahm bald eine führende Stellung ein, vor allem in der Konstruktion von Materialprüfungsapparaten und Maschinen. 1919 wurde ihm die Würde eines Dr. h. c. der Eidgenössischen Technischen Hochschule Zürich verliehen.
