  • Biographical Presentation

    Wyrffel: Georg W. (auch Wirffel), ein Buchdrucker und Buchhändler aus dem Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts, der in Ingolstadt thätig war. Man kennt bis jetzt nur drei Drucke, die seinen Namen tragen; doch sind ihm gewiß noch andere zuzuweisen (z. B. wohl der von Hain unter Nr. 10 163 aufgeführte Druck, s. Copinger's Supplement to Hain's Repert. bibl.). Jene drei Schriften hat er alle in Gemeinschaft mit einem Drucker Marx Ayrer gedruckt; alle tragen auch dieselbe Jahreszahl 1497, doch ist die Practica auf 1497 jedenfalls schon 1496 aufgelegt worden. Länger denn seine Thätigkeit als Drucker scheint diejenige als Buchhändler gedauert zu haben; denn noch 1509 wird er als solcher genannt. Weder über W. noch über Ayrer ist Näheres bekannt; insbesondere kommt auffallender Weise keiner von beiden (wie uns von der Universitätsbibliothek München mitgetheilt wird) in der Matrikel der Universität Ingolstadt vor, wenigstens nicht bis 1490 zurück. Doch haben wir in der Matrikel von Erfurt einen Georgius Werffel de Werda (nach der andern Handschrift: de Weyda) beim Jahre 1469 eingetragen gefunden. Es ist nicht unmöglich, daß dies der spätere Ingolstadter Drucker ist.
