Biographical Presentation
Calvinus: Johannes C. (Calvus, Kahl), hessischer Rechtsgelehrter, aus Wetter bei Marburg, studirte 1571 in Marburg, 1576 unter Donellus in Heidelberg und war ebenda 1595—1614 Professor in der juristischen Facultät. Er schrieb verschiedene Lehrbücher über Politik, Mosaisches Recht, Römisches Recht, und Proceß: „Πϱοπαιδεία practica, hoc est studii politici ac iuridici πϱόγνωσις παϱασϰευστιϰή“, 1595; „Themis Hebraeo-Romana", 1595; „Jurisprudentiae Romanae synopsis methodica“, 1595; „Processus iudiciarii prima proparasceue“, 1597. In seiner „Jurisprudentia feudalis sex libris comprehensa“, 1611, gab er das Langobardische Lehnrecht nach der Abtheilung des Cujacius, mit einem sechsten Buche aus dem Canonischen Recht, heraus. Eine Compilation aus fremden Arbeiten sind die von ihm gesammelten Noten zum Digestentitel de regulis iuris, zu Gaius und Ulpian, 1612. Am bekanntesten ist sein „Lexicon iuridicum“, eine weitschichtige, unkritische Compilation aus den Schriften älterer Lexikographen und Litteratoren, Frankfurt 1600, Fol. und öfter erschienen, zuletzt in 2 Theilen, Genf 1734, Fol. — Nachrichten von der oberhessischen Stadt Wetter, Frankfurt a/M. 1769, S. 112 f.
