  • Biographical Presentation

    Seiz: Johann Ferdinand S., einer der spätern schwäbischen pietistischen Dichter geistlicher Lieder, war am 5. Januar 1738 zu Lombach auf dem Schwarzwald geboren als Sohn eines Pfarrers. Im Jahre 1752 kam er auf die Klosterschule in Denkendorf, 1754 nach Maulbronn und 1756 auf das Stift in Tübingen, wo er 1758 Magister und 1766 Repetent wurde. Seine erste Anstellung erhielt er 1766 als Diakonus in Besigheim; hier verheirathete er sich mit der jüngsten Tochter Oetinger's (s. A. D. B. XXIV, 538), dessen Schriften schon vorher seine geistige Richtung bestimmt hatten. Im Jahre 1790 kam er als Stadtpfarrer nach Sindelfingen, hier starb er 55 Jahre alt an einer schweren Krankheit am 23. September 1793. S. war ein gewissenhafter und geschickter Seelsorger. In Württemberg ist er bei den Pietisten noch wohlbekannt als Dichter des Liedes „Warten wird doch nie gereuen“, das Albert Knapp auch in die spätern Auflagen seines Liederschatzes aufnahm.
