  • Biographical Presentation

    Während seiner Ausbildung in Düsseldorf (1854–56) lernte A. →Johannes Brahms und →Clara Schumann kennen, deren Briefwechsel mit →Robert Schumann und ihrem Vater →Friedrich Wieck er später ordnete. Wesentlich für sein Leben wurde die während seines Aufenthaltes in Rom (1856–60) geschlossene Freundschaft mit →Anselm Feuerbach, dessen Gemälde A. zum Teil gestochen und als Photographien veröffentlicht hat. 1894 erschien seine Feuerbachbiographie und ein Handbuch des Lichtdruckverfahrens (1881, ²1896), um dessen Verbesserung er sich bemüht hatte.
