    Die Stammreihe der Bürgerfamilie in Einbeck (Hannover) beginnt mit Barthold Brauer, der 1607-20 Mitglied des Rates war. Die im folgenden Behandelten gehen alle auf den Apotheker Justus Brauer (1678–1737) in Diepholz zurück. Der Zoologe →August Brauer (1863–1917), 1898/99 Mitglied der deutschen Tiefsee-Expedition, seit 1906 verdienstvoller Direktor des Zoologischen Museums in Berlin und außerordentlicher, seit 1914 ordentlicher Professor, trat u. a. durch wichtige Untersuchungen über Entwicklung und Anatomie der Gymnophionen und Beiträge zur Systematik und vergleichenden Anatomie der Tiefseefische hervor.
