Biographical Presentation
Ludolf: Hieronymus von L., Arzt und Chemiker. Sohn des Johann Hiob L., geb. am 11. Decbr. 1708 zu Erfurt, † ebendaselbst den 7. Novbr. 1764. Dr. med. 1741 wurde er extraordinarius, 1745 Prof. ord. der Philosophie, daneben auch ordentlicher Professor der Chemie an der Universität zu Erfurt, auch war er daselbst praktischer Arzt und Stadtphysikus. 10 Jahre lebte er in Mainz als Leibmedicus des dortigen Kurfürsten, der ihn 1752 adelte. L. kannte das auf nassem Wege gebildete schwarze Schwefelquecksilber (aus Quecksilber oder Quecksilberkalk mit Kalkschwefelleber) und gab verschiedene Methoden zur Darstellung der therapeutisch wichtigen Antimonpräparate an. Titel seiner Schriften: „Diss. de acidi vitrioli praestantia“ (Erford. 1739), „Progr. de sale non igne“ (ibid. 1749), „Die in der Medicin siegende Chemie"|u. s. w. (7 Hefte. ibid. 1746—49, darin viele chemische Arbeiten von ihm, Zugabe dazu, ibid. 1750), „De solutione mercurii per alcali“ (ibid. 1747), „De olei animalis Dippelii faciliori praeparatione etc.“ (ibid. 1750). „Vollständige und gründliche Einleitung in die Chemie u. s. w.“ (8°. ibid. 1752).
