  • Biographical Presentation

    Nach Studium der Germanistik und Geschichte in Wien, Berlin und Lemberg begann H. die bibliothekarische Laufbahn als Volontär an der Universitätsbibliothek Wien und erhielt das Referat für Germanistik. Er wurde 1894 Praktikant, 1898 provisorischer und 1899 definitiver Amanuensis, 1907 Scriptor ad personam, 1908 etatmäßiger Scriptor, erhielt 1912 Titel und Rang eines Oberbibliothekars, wurde 1918 Oberbibliothekar über den systematisierten Stand und trat Ende 1922 in|den Ruhestand. Die Tatsache, daß seine Beförderungen so langsam und spät erfolgten, hat sich bei seiner zu Depressionen und äußerstem Pessimismus neigenden Veranlagung auf sein psychisches Leben zwar ungünstig ausgewirkt, ihn aber nicht an seiner rastlosen wissenschaftlichen Arbeit gehindert. Sein Anonymen- und sein Pseudonymenlexikon, die den ganzen deutschen Sprachbereich umfassen, sind unentbehrliche Hilfsmittel für den Bibliothekar, den Bibliographen und jeden, der sich mit der älteren schönen und gelehrten deutschen Literatur befaßt.
