  • Biographical Presentation

    B. studierte in Wien, promovierte 1886, war dann Assistent bei Lieben und Bahr und habilitierte sich an der Universität Wien für organische Chemie. Nach einem Jahr Studium bei →Adolf von Baeyer im Chemischen Labor in München wurde er Berater der Wiener Glühlampenfabrik Watt. 1902 trat er in die Auergesellschaft Berlin ein und arbeitete an der Entwicklung der Osmium- und Wolframglühlampen und deren patentrechtlichem Schutz mit. Während des ersten Weltkrieges hatte er die Oberleitung der Gesamtfabrik und übernahm nach Zusammenschluß der Glühlampenfabriken der AEG., der Auergesellschaft und der Siemens & Halske AG zur Osram GmbH K.G. in Berlin 1919 die Leitung aller wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten und der Patentabteilung. 185 Patente stammen von B. oder sind auf seine Initiative zurückzuführen (u. a. Gegenstände der organischen Chemie, Wolframmetall- und -drahtherstellung, Gasentladung, Strahlungstechnik, drahtlose Telegraphie, elektrische Öfen, Röntgentechnik). Dr.-Ing. e. h. Karlsruhe.
