  • Biographical Presentation

    B. wurde zunächst als Stadtpfeifer ausgebildet, kam zu →Johann Strauß dem Jüngeren nach Wien und reiste mit dessen Kapelle. Seit Oktober 1842 war er wieder in Liegnitz und zog bald ein gutes Orchester heran, mit dem er 1867 auf eigene Kosten in Paris (Weltausstellung) konzertierte. Von 1868 ab leitete er die berühmten „B.-Konzerte“ in Berlin (seit 1870 auch die Festmusiken bei Hof, Auslandsreisen). 1882 löste sich ein Teil seiner Kapelle ab, aus dem das Philharmonische Orchester hervorging. - B. war der erste bedeutende Dirigent Berlins und gab mit seinem Orchester die einschlägige Literatur bis zu den damals neuen Werken „in fast militärischer Exaktheit“ wieder.
