Biographical Presentation
Die Familie ist 1556 aus Konstanz nach Winterthur eingewandert und teilte sich mit den Söhnen von Jakob (1586–1655) in verschiedene Linien, deren Vertreter im 18. Jahrhundert hervorragenden Anteil an dem Aufblühen der Industrie in Winterthur hatten, durch Einfuhr von levantinischer und brasilianischer Baumwolle und Ausfuhr von Garnen und Tüchern insbesondere nach dem Elsaß und Frankreich, so vor allem →Hans Jakob (1721–94), sein Sohn →Hans Kaspar (1766–96) und sein Schwiegersohn →Heinrich Biedermann (1771–1854). Zu der Familie gehörte weiter der Maler →Johann Jakob (1763–1830) und der reformierte Theologe Alois Emanuel s. (1).
