  • Biographical Presentation

    A., „der Männerapostel Wiens“, erstrebte parallel mit der christlich-sozialen Bewegung Luegers die religiöse Erweckung des Volkes. Er setzte zu St. Augustin in Wien die Überlieferung Abrahams a Sancta Clara und Zacharias Werners fort. A.s Bedeutung liegt vor allem in seinem volksmissionarischen Werk. Er baute Männerkongregationen auf und suchte den katholischen Massen an den historischen Gnadenstätten Österreichs in neuzeitlich gewandelter Verbindung von Politik und „praktischem Christentum“ Mittelpunkte religiös-organisatorischer Sammlung und Erneuerung zu schaffen.
