  • Biographical Presentation

    K. studierte seit 1911 Musikwissenschaft (bei →L. Schiedermair und →Th. Kroyer), Philosophie, klassische Philologie und Germanistik in Freiburg im Breisgau, München, Bonn, später Musiktheorie und Klavier bei →F. Bölsche und →W. Georgii. Nach Kriegsdienst 1914-19 promovierte er 1919 bei →L. Schiedermair in Bonn mit der Dissertation „Das lyrische Klavierstück zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts und seine Vorgeschichte im 17./18. Jahrhundert“. Nach Tätigkeit als Musikkritiker der Kölner Zeitung habilitierte er sich 1923 an der Universität Köln mit der Arbeit „Studien zur Geschichte der Klaviermusik des 18. Jahrhunderts“ (1928 außerplanmäßiger Professor). K. trat 1923 in den Bibliotheksdienst und wurde 1928 Bibliotheksrat an der Universitäts- und Stadtbibliothek Köln bis zu seiner Versetzung in den Ruhestand 1958. – Im Mittelpunkt der zahlreichen Studien K.s stehen die Geschichte der Klaviermusik, die Schubertforschung, die Musikgeschichte des Rheinlandes und die Musikbibliographie. Als erfolgreicher Lehrer ist er sowohl an der Universität als auch am Bibliothekar-Lehrinstitut für Nordrhein-Westfalen hervorgetreten.
