Biographical Presentation
Josepho: P. Augustin Thomas a St. J., geb. 1641 zu Auspitz in Mähren, trat zu Nicolsburg in den Piaristenorden, erscheint 1684 im Piaristencolleg zu Horn in Oesterreich als concionator und consessarius. 1690 als casuum decisor, 1694 als scholarum praefectus, 1696 als caeremoniarum explicator, daneben 1697 als Vicerector collegii und matheseos professor. Seit 1704 wird er als examinator studentium genannt, in seinem im Colleg zu Horn vorhandenen Nekrolog wird er als decanus provinciae nostrae bezeichnet. Er war wegen seiner vielseitigen Gelehrsamkeit nicht minder als wegen seines trefflichen Charakters hochgeschätzt. Mit Leibnitz stand er in Correspondenz. Am 8. September 1717 machte mitten in der Ausübung seines geistlichen Amtes ein Schlagfluß seinem Leben ein Ende. Sein Familienname scheint Säckel gewesen zu sein. Der Nekrolog spricht von vielen von ihm verfaßten gelehrten Schriften; bekannt ist nur eine mathematische: die 1690 gedruckte „Metamorphosis geomenica“. (Vgl. d. Art. Sigism. Ferd.
