  • Biographical Presentation

    G. wuchs dank seiner glänzenden Veranlagung und durch den Vater mühelos in das internationale Kunstleben hinein. 1880 gründete er in Berlin die später (seit 1908) von seinem Sohn Wolfgang geleitete „Galerie Fritz Gurlitt“. G. hat sich insbesondere als Pfleger der deutschen Romantiker sowie als Förderer Arnold Böcklins und Anselm Feuerbachs sowie um die Einführung der französischen Impressionisten in Deutschland verdient gemacht. Er hat bereits 1881 in Berlin Werke führender französischer Impressionisten gezeigt.
