  • Biographical Presentation

    S. besuchte die Höhere Bürgerschule, danach absolvierte er eine Lehre bei der Fa. „Rüdiger & Schadewitz“ in Magdeburg. 1853 erfolgte seine Aufnahme als Commis bei „Carl Heine & Co, ätherische Öle und Essenzen“, seit 1859 Fa. „Heine & Co.“ in Leipzig. Hier wurden ursprünglich einheimische Pflanzen wie Kümmel, Baldrian und Pfefferminze, mit denen Heine und S. seit 1853 experimentiert hatten, zu Riechstoffen verarbeitet. Später kamen Rohstoffe wie Anis und Fenchel hinzu. 1862 erfolgte die erste internationale Anerkennung auf der Londoner Weltausstellung. Nachdem sich Heine aus der Firma zurückgezogen hatte – er behielt aber seine finanzielle Beteiligung – nahm S. seinen Schwager Theodor Habenicht und später seine beiden Söhne Albert und Hans in die Geschäftsleitung auf. Beiden verdankt die Fa. den Aufstieg zu einem der bedeutendsten Unternehmen der Riechstoffchemie. 1896 schied S. aus der Fa. aus.
