    Als Glocken- und Stückgießer lassen sich Angehörige der aus Breslau stammenden und dort noch bis um 1450 zurück zu verfolgenden Familie seit dem Anfang des 17. Jahrhundert feststellen: →Johannes (1590–1664) in Mainz, seit 1637 in Gießen, wo die Nachkommen bis 1782 eine Gießerei besaßen und als Konstabler im hessen-darmstädtischen Militär dienten: →Johannes (1646–1728), dessen Söhne →Heinrich Balthasar (1672–1727) und →Johann Andreas (1680–1737) und des letzteren Söhne →Johann Philipp (1707–82, Vater von →Carl, s. 2) und →Philipp Ludwig (1709–75), Gießer in Nauheim, seit 1752 Werkmeister der Saline in Schwäbisch Hall. →Carl (s. 2) ging nach Kassel und gründete dort 1810 eine eigene Gießerei. Aus ihr ging die Firma „Henschel u. Sohn“ hervor, die sich bis 1957 im Besitz der Familie befand.
