    Walther: Michael W. jun., Mathematiker und lutherischer Theologe, 1692. Als Sohn des (zu Celle 1662 verstorbenen) Lüneburgischen Generalsuperintendenten W. (s. o.) ist Mich. W. am 3. März 1638 in Aurich in Ostfriesland geboren. Im Alter von 16 Jahren bezog er die Universität in Helmstedt, drei Jahre darauf die in Wittenberg. Hier wurde er 1659 Magister der freien Künste, widmete sich aber zunächst der mathematischen Lehrthätigkeit und erhielt 1666 eine Professur der Mathematik daselbst. Nach dem Tode des Führers der damaligen Wittenbergischen Theologen, Abraham Calov's, trat W. 1687 in die dortige theologische Facultät als vierter ordentlicher Professor ein und verblieb in dieser Stellung bis an seinen Tod 1692, am 21. Januar; er starb, noch nicht 54 Jahre alt. Vier Mal ist er verheirathet gewesen. Unter seinen Kindern gelangte ein aus dritter Ehe stammender Sohn Augustin Friedrich ( 1746) als Professor der Medicin in Leipzig zu ansehnlicher Bedeutung. Als Theologe vertrat W. den Standpunkt der damaligen lutherischen Scholastik, als dessen charakteristischer Vertreter sein eigener Schwiegervater Deutschmann bekannt ist, in der Zeit nach Calov unter den Epigonen theologisch einer der engherzigsten.
