Biographical Presentation
Graf: Simon G., auch Graff, geboren 1603 zu Schäßburg in Siebenbürgen; zuerst Feldprediger und dann seit 1634 Pastor zu Schandau, wo er am 25. März 1659, 56 Jahre alt, gestorben ist. Er gab eine Sammlung geistlicher Lieder unter dem Titel „Geistlich edel Herz-Pulver“ heraus, welche vielleicht zuerst Leipzig 1631, hernach 1632 und 1636 erschienen ist. Ob von den unbekannteren Liedern dieser Sammlung einige von ihm selbst verfaßt sind, scheint nicht mehr ausgemacht werden zu können. Jedenfalls ist das ihm oft zugeschriebene Lied „Christus, der ist mein Leben, Sterben ist mein Gewinn“, nicht von ihm, weil es schon 1608 bekannt gewesen ist und in dem Vulpius’schen Gesangbuch von 1609 sich findet.
