Biographical Presentation
Der Goldschmiedemeister →Hans († 1490/91) kam aus Nürnberg nach Solothurn und wurde hier 1481 Bürger, seine Söhne Andreas († 1568) und Urs (siehe Genealogie 1) wurden 1504 beziehungsweise 1511 in Zürich eingebürgert. Die Söhne des Andreas, →Andreas (1513–59) und Jakob (1527 – nach 1573) (beide s. Benzing, Buchdrucker), gründeten die G.sche Druckerei in Zürich (bestand bis 1834), ihr Halbbruder →Abraham (1552–1613) war Goldschmied, er ist bekannt durch seine wertvollen Trinkschalen (mit sorgfältig ziselierten Reliefs auf den Böden) und Becher (besonders Doppelbecher in Form einer vom Atlas getragenen Erdkugel) (s. ThB). Zu den Nachkommen weiterer Brüder gehören Johannes (s. 2), Salomon (s. 3) und →Georg (1765–1843), Professor der Theologie (s. ADB IX).
