  • Biographical Presentation

    B. war im Hauptberuf Offizier, seit 1910 Divisionskommandeur in Allenstein. Als General der Infanterie führte er im Weltkrieg die 19. Reservedivision in verschiedenen Kämpfen an der Westfront und schied bei Kriegsende aus dem Heeresdienst aus. Von den Alliierten auf die Proskriptionsliste gesetzt, wurde er noch 1925 von einem belgischen Kriegsgericht zum Tode verurteilt. Die ersten numismatischen Aufsätze veröffentlichte er schon als junger Leutnant. B. war eine Autorität von Weltruf für die Münzkunde der römischen Republik und für niedersächsische Münzund Geldgeschichte. 1911 wurde er Dr. phil. h. c. der Universität Gießen, 1922 Honorarprofessor in Halle.
