Frischmuth, Johann Christian Frisius, Johannes

  • Biographical Presentation

    Frischmuth: Johann F., Orientalist, geb. am 18. März 1619 zu Wertheim, † am 19. August 1687. Er studirte in Altdorf, wo ihn Hackspan in die morgenländischen Studien einführte, und in Jena Theologie und morgenländische Sprachen und wurde 1639 Magister der Philosophie. 1647 erhielt er eine Berufung an das akademische Gymnasium zu Hamburg, da man ihn aber in Jena halten wollte, machte man ihn hier zum Rector der Stadtschule, sodann 1649 zum außerordentlichen Professor der Sprachwissenschaft, 1652 zum ordentlichen Professor der Poesie und endlich bald darauf an Slevogt's Stelle zum Professor der griechischen und der morgenländischen Sprachen. Er war mehr Exeget als Linguist und schrieb eine große Anzahl Dissertationen über einzelne Stellen des Alten Testaments, welche ihrer Zeit in hohem Ansehen standen. Eine Sammlung derselben in 6 Decaden, welche er herauszugeben beabsichtigte, vollendete er nicht. Einer seiner vorzüglichsten Schüler war Joh. Andr. Danz, welcher ihm auch im Amte folgte.
