    Die Familie ist seit Anfang des 17. Jahrhunderts in Hessen nachweisbar. Sie hat ihren Namen bald latinisiert, die Brüder Adolph und Karl (s. unten) nahmen wieder die deutsche Form an. Zu ihr gehören auch: Justus Freiherr von F. (hessen-darmstädtischer Adel und Freiherrnstand 1812, 1761-1838), hessen-darmstädtischer Generalleutnant (s. NND 16), und seine Enkelin Sophie (Pseudonym Marie Berger, 1837-1917), Schriftstellerin (s. Brümmer), ferner →Otto (1852–1900), Chemiker (Fruchtzuckerfabrikation), und →Robert (1878–1943), Syndikus des Vereins der Deutschen Zucker-Industrie (s. Wenzel).
