Biographical Presentation
Aus Schottland stammendes Geschlecht, das im 17. Jh. im schwed. Militärdienst nach Livland kam, später auch in Estland und Kurland (Lettland) zu größerem Gutsbesitz gelangte. Zu ihm gehören: →Friedrich (1767–1824), russ. Generalleutnant, leitete die Belagerung von Danzig 1812/13, →Peter (1768–1829), trat für das Bauernschulwesen und die Errichtung eines Lehrerseminars ein, →August (1801–49), Vizepräsident bzw. Präsident des Livländ. Hofgerichts in Riga, →Oskar (1838–99), Jagdzoologe und Ornithologe, →Karl (1855–1930), livländ. Ritterschaftsbibliothekar, Archäologe, Burgenforscher und Kartograph, und →August (1881–1930), Dr. phil., Märchen- und Sagenforscher.
