Biographical Presentation
Egenolf: Johann Augustin E., Schulmann, Sohn des gleichnamigen Rectors der Kreuzschule zu Dresden, geb. 22. Febr. 1683 zu Dresden, † 13. Jan. 1729, war 1693—1701 Schüler in Pforta. Nachdem er 1704 (nicht 1705) am 31. Jan. in Leipzig Magister artium geworden war (s. Joh. Heinr. Ernesti's Progr. Oeconomica Plautina. Lips. 1704, wo eine kurze Selbstbiographie Egenolf's in lateinischen Versen), begleitete er 1709 den Grafen Moritz von Sachsen nach Holland. 1711 im September trat er seine Stelle als Collega III in Grimma an, am 2. Mai 1718 heirathete er Maria Sophia, Tochter des Pastors Johann|Gottfried Seyler in Nerchau. Als er starb, hinterließ er eine Wittwe mit zwei Söhnen. Durch sein Interesse für die deutsche Sprache und ihre Geschichte hat er seinen Namen der Erinnerung überliefert.
