    Eckersberg: Johann Wilhelm E., geb. den 20. Aug. 1762 zu Dresden, kam 1774 als Alumnus auf die Kreuzschule und genoß dort den Musikunterricht des Cantor Homilius. 1783—85 hielt er sich behufs seiner weiteren Ausbildung in Leipzig auf, kehrte dann nach Dresden zurück und vollendete seine Studien beim Cantor Weinlig und bei seinem Vater, der Organist an der Sophien- und Garnisonkirche war und am 26. Mai 1807 im 76. Lebensjahre starb. Seit 1789 Organist an der Neustädter Kirche, starb E. am 20. Aug. 1821 in Dresden, bekannt als tüchtiger Orgelspieler und Componist für Kirche, Kammer und Haus. Am bedeutendsten soll seine Musik zu Schiller's Glocke gewesen sein, welche er 1804 schrieb. Gedruckt von seinen Werken ist wenig; am bekanntesten wurden 16 Gesänge mit Clavierbegleitung (Weißenfels 1797) und 6 Polonaisen für Pianoforte.
