  • Biographical Presentation

    Aus der Hildesheimer Domschule hervorgegangen, wurde R. nach dem Tod Hattos II. ( Jan. 970) Erzbischof von Mainz und ist dementsprechend seit dem 7.3.970 auch als Erzkaplan Ottos I. bezeugt. Er nahm an der Ingelheimer Synode im Sept. 972 teil, die über den Nachfolgewunsch des greisen Bf. Ulrich von Augsburg ( 973) zu verhandeln hatte, und förderte die seitens der Abtei Hornbach betriebene Gründung des Stiftes St. Philipp in Zell (Pfalz). Daraus, daß R. als erster Mainzer Erzbischof in der Überlieferung des böhm. Klosters Sázava (Sazau, Bez. Kuttenberg) berücksichtigt ist. läßt sich schließen, daß er an der Gründung des Bistums Prag beteiligt war, die von seinem Nachfolger Willigis ( 1011) schon 976 mit der Weihe des ersten Prager Bf. Thietmar ( 982) abgeschlossen wurde. Das neue Bistum blieb Mainzer Suffragan, bis es 1344 zum Erzbistum erhoben wurde.
